전능하신 하나님, 민족의 통치자이신 주님, 주님의 말씀은 통치자들의 마음이 주님께 통제되고 있으며, 주님의 지혜에 따라 그들을 인도하시고 영향을 주신다고 가르칩니다.
우리를 위해 봉사한 퇴임한 의회와 현재 정부에 감사드립니다. 현재의 선거 캠페인에서 우리의 연방 의회에 선출되기를 원하는 이들의 마음을 주님께서 다스리고 인도해 주시기를 겸손히 요청합니다.
공직에 있는 모든 이에게 지혜와 능력, 상상력과 에너지를 허락해 주십시오. 후보자들이 현실적인 약속을 하고 그 약속을 지킬 수 있도록 도와주시고, 소소한 점수 세기와 어리석은 이름 부르기를 피하도록 보호해 주십시오. 또한, 그들을 부패와 자기 이익을 위한 유혹으로부터 보호하여 주시기를 바랍니다.
우리를 투표하는 이들도 같은 유혹으로부터 지켜 주십시오. 우리의 안정된 민주주의와 그것이 우리에게 제공하는 좋은 것들에 감사드립니다.
연방 선거와 정부를 맡게 될 자들의 일을 인도하고, 우리의 의회 결정이 주님의 영광을 증진시키고 이 나라의 안전과 복지를 위해 이루어지도록 영향을 주십시오. 그래서 평화와 행복, 진리와 정의가 우리 가운데 세워지게 하여 주시기를, 우리 주 예수 그리스도를 통해 기도합니다. 아멘.
Prayer for an election campaign
In the Lord’s hand the king’s heart is a stream of water
that he channels towards all who please him.
A person may think their own ways are right,
but the Lord weighs the heart.
– Proverbs 21:1-2
Almighty God, Ruler of the nations, your Word teaches us that the hearts of rulers are in your
control, and that you influence and direct them according to your wisdom.
We thank you for those who have served us in the outgoing parliament, and in the current
government. We now humbly ask you to over-rule and direct the hearts of those who seek
election to our federal parliament in the current campaign.
Grant to all who serve in public life, wisdom and skill, imagination and energy. Enable
candidates to make realistic promises and help them keep their word. Preserve them from
petty point-scoring and foolish name-calling. Protect them from corruption and the
temptation of self-serving.
Preserve us, who vote, from those same temptations as well.
Thank you for our stable democracy and the good things it offers us.
Direct the federal election and the work of those chosen to govern, and influence the
decisions of our parliaments to the advancement of your glory, and the safety and welfare of
this country, so that peace and happiness, truth and justice may be established among us,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
